The Volunteer Services Department at MWH coordinates a variety of services and special project needs for anyone interested in volunteering their time and talents to help others. Please see our volunteer application and information sesson dates at the bottom of the next column for more information.

As the Hospital expands to meet the community's needs, our need for volunteers is greater than ever. There are three volunteer opportunities at MWH.

The largest volunteer group is the MWH Auxiliary, a dynamic membership organization providing patient and hospital support, fund-raising and community outreach. The Auxiliary has 23 services in which you may volunteer (includes patient and non-patient areas), including the Gift Shop and the Mary Washington Shoppe. Service opportunities are from Sunday to Saturday with specific time requirement needs. The Auxiliary's annual dues are $5.00.

The Hospital Red Cross Volunteers are affiliated with the local Red Cross Chapter. This group assists with the deliveries of mail, flowers, and ice and water to the patients. Service is provided Monday through Saturday. The Red Cross is not a dues paying organization.

Our Summer Junior Volunteer program is for high school students from 14-17, with opportunities to learn about health care careers. Many students who are already on a career track for physical therapy or premed college choose to volunteer. There are two five-week programs to choose from, with a minimum requirement of 40 hours of volunteer time.
