The Heart Center at MWH provides a wide variety of care. Our open-heart surgery program features state-of-the-art equipment and the very latest techniques from Board-certified, nationally known physicians. Surgeries we perform include coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement, and aneurysm repair. Our heart surgery team also includes a vascular surgeon who specializes in repair to arteries and veins in the chest.

We offer a comprehensive invasive cardiology program. All of our invasive cardiologists are Board-certified and perform procedures in our dedicated cardiac catheterization labs. In addition to catheterizations to determine where blockages are, we perform angioplasty and stenting (clearing blockages out of clogged arteries), procedures to insert pacemakers and implantable defibrillators, and we conduct electrophysiology studies to examine the heart?s electrical functions.

Also available are advanced diagnostics including echocardiography, a three-dimensional color image of the heart, and stress testing. We place a great deal of emphasis on healthy recovery, supported by extensive patient education and a cardiac rehabilitation program available on an outpatient basis as well.

As a special service to our community, MWH partners with MCV Hospitals in Richmond for children?s services. Specially trained pediatric cardiologists come to MWH to provide specialty care, and are also available to work with some of our young patients who need special diagnostic techniques.
