Mary Washington Hospital opened its doors in 1899 debt-free, made possible by the generous donations of community members. Today, we continue that tradition of working with our community to ensure that we are able to provide the best health care possible. Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) Foundation, created in 1988 to be the fundraising mechanism of Mary Washington Hospital and its affiliates, is proud to support the health care needs of the citizens of Fredericksburg and its surrounding communities. Stafford Hospital Center (SHC) Foundation was created in 2008 to be the fundraising mechanism of Stafford Hospital Center. (For more information, please click on "Methods of Giving".) We host two annual golf tournaments and an oyster roast. Because both Foundations are not-for-profit, donations are fully deductible as allowed by current IRS regulations. The Foundations provide monies that enable MediCorp Health System to acquire the very latest in technological advances and provide educational scholarships to employees of MediCorp. We also administer the MWH and SHC Community Service Funds (see link to right), programs that award grants to non-profit organizations that seek to establish health-related projects within our region. The Fund is a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Regional Cooperation award for outstanding service.

Our highly trained and knowledgeable staff has been sought out by Health Foundations throughout the mid-Atlantic region for their expertise in many areas including donor-based services, capital campaigns, grant-making, and innovative solutions to regional health care issues. The mission of the MWH and SHC Foundations is to communicate the case for financial support of the activities of MediCorp Health System, including Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital Center, and to act as a grantmaker to promote partnerships with community organizations to improve the health status of all people within our community.
