Financial Assistance

Charity Care, Discounts and Payment Arrangements

MediCorp's mission is to improve the health status of all people in our community. One way we do this is by offering charity care (this is also called free care), discounts on medical bills and payment arrangements that let you make a payment plan for your medical bills.

Financial help is for people who need it to pay their health care bills. This help is only for "medically necessary" services. That means services you need in order to get better or to take care of things like diabetes and high blood pressure. Financial help does not pay for cosmetic procedures (facelifts for example) or for care your doctor does not think you need.

Charity Care (free care) is to help patients who do not have health insurance and do not have the money to pay their bills. Free care helps families with combined incomes that are at or less than 200% of the federal government's poverty guidelines. For more information, please click on the Federal Poverty Guidelines link in the next column.

Discount means that MediCorp lowers the amount qualified patients owe on their bills if they do not have insurance or if a service they need is not covered by their insurance. The discount helps patients who can pay a small amount on their bills and for patients who find themselves with a serious medical situation and cannot pay the whole hospital bill. Discounts are to help families with combined incomes from 201% to 400% of the federal government's poverty guidelines. Discounts range between 20 - 60% of the amount that you would usually have to pay.

Payment Arrangements can be made for patients who have large bills that they cannot afford to pay all at once.

We will review your account for the kind of help we can offer. First we see if you are eligible for charity (free) care. If you are not eligible, we look at your account to see if you are eligible for a discount. If you cannot pay the entire amount of the bill, we may set up a plan so you can pay your bill over time.

If you own your own home, you may still be eligible for either charity (free) care or a discount on your bill. MediCorp does not count what your home is worth against you when we review what you are able to pay. We also do not count the first $50,000 you have in cash or in bank accounts.

All of your information is kept confidential and only used to find out if MediCorp is able to help you pay for what you owe. We do not give any of your information to anyone else or any other companies.
