Hospice Bereavement Services

Hospice care does not end once a loved one has passed away; our services and support groups are provided to family members at no cost.

Our bereavement care is compassionate and supportive care provided by professional grief counselors with many years of hospice experience. We reach out to families and to our community with individualized care because we understand that grief is a natural response and that each person's grief experience is unique.

Hospice Grief Counselor Support Services

  • Individualized Emotional Support-This one-on-one support provides individual attention either on the phone or in our office to help those facing grief
  • Professionally led support groups-Group support helps people through sharing their grief with others that have experienced mutual loss of a loved one. These groups provide understanding for your feelings, thoughts, and experiences, as well as comfort and strength in knowing that you are not alone.
  • Short-term counseling (as available)-This one-on-one grief support provides counseling for up to 4 sessions.

"Hospice Bereavement services provided me with the support I needed after my husband's death. Being a young mother with four children it was a relief for me to have a grief counselor and other bereaved to lean on, shed tears with and not feel alone in my grief."

    Mary Washington Hospice Spiritual Care

Our Spiritual Care program offers support to hospice patients, their families and facility staff as they come to terms with the meaning of life and it's passing.

    How does Spiritual Care work?

Spiritual care is more than religious expression. Is it also the sense of well being and connection with life. Each hospice patient has his or her own special idea/spirituality and may need the help of someone professionally trained to offer spiritual and emotional support.

The Spiritual Care team may also assist in contacting the patient's pastor, priest, rabbi, or spiritual leader.

    Spirituality

It is normal for hospice patients to show their spirituality by:

  • Settling Conflicts

  • Expressing their religious beliefs to fit their situation
  • Facing feelings of anger
  • Learning to live creatively and passionately

    When is Spiritual Care started?

Within 7 days of admission, the Hospice Spiritual Care staff assesses each patient's and/or family's spiritual needs and resources. Should the patient elect specific support, the Spiritual Services Coordinator assigns a Spiritual counselor to provide the patient and family with what they need.
